Maha Minister Ignites Controversy Saying, “Eat Fish Daily For Beautiful Eyes Like Aishwarya Rai”

Giving out health tips is something different and exaggeration is one other thing. On Monday, a BJP minister in Maharashtra found himself at the center of controversy after making a claim linking regular fish eating to the possibility of having eyes as attractive like actor Aishwarya Rai. During a public function in the Nandurbar region of north Maharashtra, state tribal minister Vijaykumar Gavit made some remarks that were videotaped and afterwards went viral on social media.

The minister claimed fish oil can give you Eyes like Aishwarya Rai

Fish contains specific oils that help to softer skin, according to the 68-year-old minister, whose daughter Heena Gavit is a BJP member of the Lok Sabha.

“People who consume fish on a daily basis develop smooth skin and their eyes sparkle. If anyone looks at you, the person will get attracted (towards you). Did I tell you about Aishwarya Rai? She lived near the seashore in Mangaluru. She would consume fish daily. Have you seen her eyes? You will also have eyes like her,” the minister said.

Political leaders criticized Gavit, with some raising concerns about the “frivolous” tone of the remarks. The minister should prioritize resolving challenges faced by tribals instead of making such “frivolous” remarks, according to NCP lawmaker Amol Mitkari.

Here comes the clarificatin…

BJP MLA Nitesh Rane commented, “I eat fish daily. My eyes should have become like that (like those of Aishwarya Rai). I will ask Gavit sahib if there is any research on this.”

Following the controversy, Gavit issued a clarification stating, “Since I was addressing the tribals, it was important for me to provide them with an ideal example. The media has taken it out of context. I, too, have daughters and Aishwarya is like my daughter. She is a reasonable woman and would understand that explaining the benefits of fish oil isn’t simple. The fish in the Arabian Sea is a rich source of omega-3, which is essential for dry eyes, glaucoma and overall health.”
