On January 29, the Yogi government received widespread praise for its effective management during the Mauni Amavasya snan at the Maha Kumbh, where a potentially catastrophic situation was averted. Despite an overwhelming crowd, quick action and well-laid plans ensured the safety of thousands of devotees. Saints and devotees alike acknowledged the government’s timely response, which helped maintain order and prevent a major disaster.
As the crowd surged unexpectedly during the sacred bath, the situation threatened to escalate into a tragedy. However, the Yogi government, along with the Mela administration and police, acted swiftly to control the situation.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath closely monitored the developments, receiving real-time updates throughout the day. Upon learning of the incident early in the morning, he immediately convened an emergency meeting at his official residence.
In the meeting, senior officials, including the Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary (Home), DGP, and ADG (Law & Order), discussed urgent safety measures. The CM issued directives to ensure the continued safety of devotees and prevent further incidents.
Mahant Swami Prakashanand of Shri Panch Dashnam Aavahan Akhara commented that the incident was triggered by a rumor but praised the Yogi government and the police for their swift intervention, which saved many lives.
He noted that given the sheer size of the crowd, the situation could have been far worse. He credited the well-organized management and quick response of the Uttar Pradesh police for preventing a major disaster and expressed gratitude to the government for its efforts.

Prashant Agrawal, President of Narayan Seva Sansthan, also lauded the authorities for their vigilance in maintaining control over the crowd. He emphasized that the dedication of government officials and law enforcement had ensured that the sacred Amrit Snan proceeded smoothly. He urged devotees and saints to avoid rumors and cooperate with the administration to maintain peace and safety.
An eyewitness to the incident revealed that despite the Yogi government’s meticulous arrangements for the safety of devotees, an unruly crowd caused a stampede-like situation. They suggest that the chaos can be avoid if there had been no pushing and shoving. The eyewitness also criticized opposition parties, accusing them of exploiting the situation for political gain.
Kumkum Srivastava, a devotee from Gopalganj, Bihar, expressed her satisfaction with the overall arrangements for the Maha Kumbh but pointed out that the massive crowd and some individuals’ negligence contributed to the incident.
She highlighted the repeated instructions given by the government for devotees to bathe at designated spots, questioning why many chose to rush toward Sangam Nose despite clear guidelines.
The swift and effective response from the Yogi government, coupled with the cooperation of law enforcement and the Mela administration, prevented a major disaster at the Mahakumbh during Mauni Amavasya Snan.
As the event continues smoothly, both saints and devotees have praised the government’s role in ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants. While challenges remain in managing such a large-scale event, the response to this incident underscores the importance of pre-planning and quick action in maintaining order during large gatherings.
