In preparation for Maha Kumbh 2025, Mahakumbh Nagar is likely to offer an immersive experience for devotees with the creation of a unique high-density ‘oxygen forest’.
Featuring over 1,50,000 plants, this green initiative aims to enhance the area’s natural beauty while ensuring a plentiful supply of oxygen, promising an uplifting environment for visitors from across the globe.
Under the leadership of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, efforts are underway to beautify Mahakumbh Nagar’s main intersections and the major highways leading to the site.
The objective is to seamlessly integrate nature into the region’s landscape.
Arvind Kumar Yadav, DFO Prayagraj, explained, “The preparations for this year’s Maha Kumbh focus on making it both divine and refreshing. With a target of planting 149,620 saplings, we’ve already planted 137,964. The officials are likely to complete all plantation work by 10 December.”
“One of the highlights will be the 50,000 saplings that will greet devotees as they enter Mahakumbh, offering a visual treat for both domestic and international visitors. The forest department is working tirelessly to ensure Mahakumbh Nagar is green and vibrant, with plants placed on every road and intersection. Mahakumbh Nagar will be fully green even before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit,” he further added.
Alok Kumar Pandey, IT Head of the Forest Department in Prayagraj, shared more about the projects underway, stating, “The entry and exit routes linking Mahakumbh Nagar to the city are being beautified with ornamental plants. A variety of projects, including the installation of 50,000 cement tree guards, 10,000 round iron guards, and 2,500 square iron guards, are underway as part of this thematic planting initiative.”
“A high-density oxygen forest is being developed in Saraswati Hi-Tech City, designed to function as both an oxygen bank and a city forest. A total of 87,120 plants are being planted over 20 hectares in this area, which will become a major attraction for both domestic and international tourists,” he further added.
Efforts to green the region extend across Mahakumbh Nagar, with authorities planting 50,000 saplings along 18 key routes, covering a 190-kilometer radius.
Notable routes include those connecting Prayagraj to Ayodhya, Varanasi, Lucknow, Rewa, and Banda. Along the Ganga River, authorities are planting 10,000 saplings, with a particular focus on beautifying Pakka Ghat and the banks of Jhunsi, Arail, and Phaphamau.
The Karchana range is also undergoing significant transformation, with 2,500 saplings planted between the urban area of Mahakumbh Nagar and Hi-Tech City.
The authorities are planting a variety of trees, including Gul Mohar, Kachnar, and Amaltas, along the region’s roads, further enriching its vibrant greenery.
As part of the Green Maha Kumbh initiative, officials are transforming the banks of the Ganga into lush, green spaces.
They are also focusing special attention on the left bank, where they are planting 3,000 Arjun trees. On the southern bank of the Sangam, the officials are adding Gul Mohar and Kanji plants, while they are also planting another 2,000 saplings in the Karchana range.
In addition, they are also enhancing important roadways such as Phaphamau-Sahson-Hanumanganj and Prayagraj-Gorakhpur with Arjun and Peepal saplings.
