Maha Kumbh 2025: Enhanced Security Measures With Mounted Police Deployment

In preparation for the Maha Kumbh 2025, the Yogi government has implemented extensive security measures to ensure the safety of devotees and effective crowd management.

Among these measures, 180 mounted police officers will be deployed throughout the festival area to assist with patrol duties.

As part of the preparations, trained mounted police personnel have undergone specialized training at various police lines.

Leading up to the event, these officers will conduct a thorough reconnaissance of the area to familiarize themselves with the layout.

With over 400 million devotees and tourists expected to visit Prayagraj during the festival from 13 January to 26 February, the government is implementing proactive measures to handle the massive influx of visitors, especially on significant bathing days when millions will gather at the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati.

A senior police officer involved in the event’s security stated that the training for the mounted police has been rigorous.

Meanwhile, the authorities are deploying 180 mounted officers to effectively control the crowd, as they are more effective than foot patrol officers.

Being on horseback allows these officers to maintain a broader visual range and respond swiftly to any suspicious activity by alerting other personnel in the vicinity.

The psychological impact of mounted police on crowds is also noteworthy.

Officers on horseback can manage larger crowds with fewer resources, making them an efficient choice for event security.

Each horse assigned to the Maha Kumbh has a distinctive name, such as Maharaja, Chetan, and Bahubali, to foster a sense of identity and connection.

Before the event starts, trained mounted officers will tour the area to familiarize themselves with the festival grounds, ensuring they are ready to handle any situations that arise during the Maha Kumbh.
