Paush Purnima Draws Record Devotees As UP Administration Ensures Flawless Magh Mela

On the sacred occasion of Paush Purnima, Prayagraj witnessed an extraordinary surge of devotion as nearly 31 lakh devotees took a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam during the first major bathing day of the Magh Mela, according to official information released by the Uttar Pradesh Government.

The event unfolded peacefully, reflecting meticulous planning, firm governance, and continuous administrative vigilance.

From the early hours of the morning, waves of pilgrims moved steadily toward the Sangam ghats. By 8 PM, authorities recorded the completion of the sacred bath by approximately 31 lakh devotees, including nearly five lakh Kalpvasis, who have undertaken extended spiritual observances along the riverbanks.

Senior administrative and police officials remained stationed in the mela area from the previous night to ensure round-the-clock monitoring.

Additional Director General of Police Sanjeev Gupta, Inspector General Ajay Mishra, Divisional Commissioner Saumya Agrawal, Prayagraj Police Commissioner Joginder Singh, Additional Police Commissioner Ajaypal Sharma, District Magistrate Manish Verma, Mela Adhikari Rishiraj, and Mela Superintendent of Police Neeraj Pandey personally supervised arrangements, issued real-time instructions, and coordinated field operations.

The administration’s proactive, coordinated, and disciplined approach ensured that the first bathing festival concluded without any untoward incident. Officials managed crowd flow efficiently and escorted devotees safely back to their destinations, reinforcing public confidence in governance.

Faith Meets Firm Governance

This year, the Magh Mela introduced several innovative mobility solutions to enhance pilgrim convenience. The golf cart service, operating between Parking Number 17 and the Lete Hanuman Temple, assisted nearly 9,500 devotees.

Authorities provided free access to many pilgrims, especially senior citizens, women, and divyang devotees, offering them dignified and comfortable movement within the fair area.

Additionally, the administration facilitated quicker access through Rapido bike services, which connected multiple pickup points to nearby parking zones. Nearly 10,000 bookings were recorded, significantly reducing walking distances and easing congestion during peak hours.

Officials credited the seamless execution to continuous field presence, technology-backed monitoring, and innovation-driven crowd management. Surveillance systems, controlled entry routes, and disciplined traffic movement contributed to smooth operations across the sprawling mela grounds.

The Uttar Pradesh Government stated that the success of the Paush Purnima bath reflects its commitment to balancing religious tradition with administrative precision.

The orderly conduct of the first major bathing day has set a strong operational benchmark for the upcoming key bathing dates of the Magh Mela.

As faith flowed freely at the Sangam, the state administration’s preparedness ensured that devotion remained secure, organised, and uninterrupted, projecting Prayagraj’s Magh Mela as a powerful example of effective governance aligned with cultural heritage.
