The Government Railway Police (GRP) has stepped up its security preparations ahead of the Magh Mela 2026 in Prayagraj.
ADG Railways Uttar Pradesh Prakash D inspected Prayagraj Junction on Wednesday to assess railway security arrangements.
He reviewed all preparations to ensure flawless readiness for the massive influx of pilgrims arriving from January 3, 2026.
ADG Prakash D held an extensive meeting with GRP and RPF officers at the SP GRP office before beginning a ground-level inspection.
He emphasised that millions of devotees travel to the Sangam city during the Mela, making railway safety and smooth passenger movement a top operational priority.
He stated that the GRP has already prepared a detailed action plan modelled on the Mahakumbh strategy, covering all nine railway stations under the Prayagraj division.
Authorities will colour-code platforms to streamline crowd movement. They will also set up holding areas, like those at Khusro Bagh, to accommodate passengers safely.
These areas will include drinking water, restrooms, and seating, ensuring basic comfort during peak crowd surges.
The ADG directed officials to install clear signage from the Mela grounds to the railway stations.
Multi-language announcement systems, he said, will help guide both domestic and international pilgrims efficiently.
In response to recent bomb blasts in Delhi, he ordered the deployment of state-of-the-art security equipment across key stations.
Security teams will secure all entry points with high-tech surveillance systems. They will also cover the entire route, from station gates to platforms, with CCTV cameras.
He confirmed that a meeting with the General Manager of North Central Railway will soon finalise the joint operational framework.
ADG Prakash D inspected the newly established planning control room at Khusro Bagh.
He reviewed the high-resolution, face-recognition cameras installed to instantly flag suspicious individuals in crowded areas.
Additional police forces have been requested for fair duty.
Officers arriving from outside districts will undergo specialised training focused on communication, public behaviour, and cooperative policing.
“We are fully prepared. My visit today was to ensure no lapses remain,” he asserted.
Prayagraj Junction saw an on-foot inspection from platform number 1 to the waiting rooms, where the ADG cross-checked every arrangement.
GRP SP Prashant Verma and senior RPF officials accompanied him throughout the review.
Station Director BK Dwivedi announced that to reduce pressure on the main junction, major trains like the Prayagraj Express and Humsafar Express will operate from Subedarganj.
Additional counters, water points, holding areas, and sanitation services have also been arranged, similar to previous Kumbh models.
ADG Prakash D is driving a proactive, multi-agency security strategy for Magh Mela 2026. His coordination and deployment of additional forces ensure the event will run under tight, technology-driven security.
His appeal to devotees remains simple: follow instructions, cooperate with authorities, and travel safely.
This year’s Magh Mela promises not only spiritual grandeur but also one of the strongest security frameworks ever implemented in Prayagraj.
