Ahmedabad (Gujarat): A Gujarat court on Friday remanded Tathya Patel in custody until Sunday after he allegedly ran over nine persons with his speeding luxury car on the ISKCON Bridge in Ahmedabad. Pragnesh Patel, the driver’s father, has also been placed in custody for a period of 14 days.
On Thursday morning at around one in the morning, the accident happened at the ISKCON bridge on the Sarkhej-Gandhinagar route. Earlier on Thursday, after the arrest, Gujarat Police brought accused Tathya Patel and his father to the crime spot where the accident happened.
In a video, the accused is seen apologizing while holding his hands in the air after being led to the scene of the collision. Following the sad accident, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel called a high-level meeting on Thursday and ordered officials to take harsh action against the culprits. In the meeting it was decided that the case would be heard on a priority basis and the charge sheet to be presented within a week. A special prosecutor will be appointed and the case will be tried in a fast-track court said the official in the statement.
Taking the incident into consideration, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra patel announced ₹ 4 lakh compensation to the kin of the deceased and ₹ 50,000 to the injured. Immediate Instructions were given to health minister Rushikesh patel to reach Sola Civil Hospital and provide aid to the families of the victims, Rushikesh patel visited the families and assisted in arrangements, including treatments.

According to the official statement, CM Bhupendra Patel also gave the Chief Secretary instructions to improve coordination between the police, road construction, urban development department, and local authorities regarding CCTV camera networks and light poles on city highways to monitor vehicle speed on highways across the state, including highways passing through cities.
