In a shocking start to the new year, Lucknow Police arrested 24-year-old Arshad on Wednesday for allegedly murdering his mother and four sisters in a city hotel.
Officials suspect that his father assisted him in committing the crime, further amplifying the horror of the incident.
Raveena Tyagi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Central stated, “We received information from the Thana Naka area that five dead bodies were found in a room at Hotel Sharanjeet. The accused, Arshad, has taken into custody. He confessed to killing his mother and four sisters – some by slitting their throats and others by cutting their wrist nerves.”
Authorities identified the victims as Alia (9), Alshia (19), Aksa (16), Rahmeen (18), and their mother, Asma.
Hotel staff discovered the bodies and immediately informed the police, leading to Arshad’s arrest.
Arshad, a resident of Islam Nagar, Tedi Bagiya in Agra, reportedly admitted that the murders rooted in a family dispute involving their neighbors.
The confession reveals that the family traveled to Ajmer first and then arrived in Lucknow the day before the killings.
DCP Tyagi further asserted, “Arshad has alleged that his father assisted in the crime. However, the extent of his father’s involvement is still under investigation. We have contacted the Agra Police for further inquiries.”
The police revealed that Arshad killed his mother first, followed by his sisters while they were asleep in the hotel room.
A video recording of Arshad’s confession showed him describing the crime, attributing his actions to frustrations over prolonged family disputes.
Forensic teams sealed the crime scene and collected evidence, while senior officials visited the site to monitor the investigation.
The authorities sent the bodies for post-mortem examinations to determine the exact cause of death and gain more clarity on the murders.
“The exact details of the motive and circumstances will be revealed after further investigation and the post-mortem results,” said the DCP.
The incident has left the community in shock, with police intensifying efforts to uncover the full extent of the crime and determine the father’s alleged involvement.
