LPG Tanker Nanda Devi Reaches Gujarat As India Secures Fuel Supply

The Indian-flagged LPG tanker ‘Nanda Devi’ arrived at Vadinar Port in Gujarat at around 11:25 AM on Tuesday, becoming the second vessel to reach India’s west coast this week after ‘Shivalik’ docked at Mundra a day earlier.

Both carriers delivered critical LPG supplies after navigating a difficult passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

The ships crossed the strategically vital corridor amid heightened tensions involving Iran, the United States and Israel.

Increased military activity and warnings from Iran have sharply reduced commercial shipping movements in the region since late February, forcing vessels to operate under elevated risk.

To manage the situation, authorities prioritised quick unloading.

The Deendayal Port Authority, following directives from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, instructed ports to grant priority berthing to LPG-laden ships to avoid delays and maintain a steady cooking gas supply across the country.

Earlier, ‘Shivalik’, carrying about 46,000 tonnes of LPG from Qatar, completed a nine-day voyage and docked at Mundra with advance arrangements for immediate discharge.

Officials said these shipments support India’s efforts to secure LPG supplies for household and industrial use, as the country relies heavily on imports.

Before their arrival, several Indian-flagged vessels and hundreds of seafarers remained anchored in the Persian Gulf while companies reassessed routes.

The arrival of ‘Nanda Devi’ highlights coordinated diplomatic and logistical efforts to safeguard maritime trade.

Authorities confirmed that Indian seafarers remain safe, while another vessel, ‘Jag Laadki’, carrying crude oil from the UAE, continues its journey to India.
