Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Phase 5: Key Constituencies to Watch

Voting for the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 will take place today, May 20, covering 49 constituencies across eight states and union territories, including key constituencies like Amethi and Rae Bareli. The states participating in this phase are Bihar, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, along with the union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

In Uttar Pradesh, the fate of five Union ministers, including Rajnath Singh and Smriti Irani, as well as Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, will be decided. Campaigning for this phase concluded on Saturday, May 18, with the last date for filing nominations being May 3.

Key Constituencies in Phase 5

Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh: Rahul Gandhi is contesting from Rae Bareli, a seat previously held by Sonia Gandhi.

Amethi, Uttar Pradesh: Smriti Irani (BJP) defends her seat against KL Sharma (Congress). The constituency has historical significance for the Congress party.

Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: Rajnath Singh (BJP) seeks re-election, facing Ravidas Mehrotra (Samajwadi Party).

Kaiserganj, Uttar Pradesh: Karan Bhushan Singh (BJP) replaces his father amid legal issues, contested by Samajwadi Party’s Ravi Kishan.

Faizabad, Uttar Pradesh: Lallu Singh (BJP) runs against Awadhesh Prasad (Samajwadi Party) in the constituency housing the Ayodhya Ram Temple.

Saran, Bihar: Rohini Acharya (RJD) takes on Rajiv Pratap Rudy (BJP), with Saran being a former constituency of Lalu Prasad Yadav.

Hajipur, Bihar: Chirag Paswan (LJP) aims to uphold his father’s legacy, running against RJD’s Shiv Chandra Ram.

Mumbai North, Maharashtra: Piyush Goyal (BJP) contests against Bhushan Patil (Congress).

Ladakh: With local protests against the BJP, Congress promises to bring the region under the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution to protect tribal status and local interests.

Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir: Omar Abdullah (NC) faces Sajad Lone (Peoples Conference) and Mir Mohammad Fayaz (PDP).

Jharkhand: 3 out of 14 constituencies.
Odisha: 5 out of 21 constituencies.
Uttar Pradesh: 14 out of 80 constituencies.
Bihar: 5 out of 40 constituencies.
Maharashtra: 13 out of 48 constituencies.
West Bengal: 7 out of 42 constituencies.
Ladakh: 1 constituency.
Jammu and Kashmir: 1 out of 5 constituencies.

The fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 is crucial, featuring high-profile candidates and significant electoral battles across multiple states and union territories.
