Lok Sabha Adjourned After Opposition Protests Over Amit Shah Demand

The Lok Sabha adjourned for the day on Friday after repeated slogan-shouting by Opposition members disrupted proceedings and prevented the House from functioning smoothly.

The protests intensified soon after the House reconvened at noon, with Opposition MPs demanding the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Members continuously raised slogans of ‘Amit Shah, sadan mein aao’, creating persistent disorder inside the House.

Acting Speaker Dilip Saikia urged protesting MPs to return to their seats and maintain decorum. He reminded members that the post-noon session under Rule 377 allows MPs to raise issues concerning their constituencies.

The Opposition ignored repeated appeals and continued its protest.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju criticised the Opposition’s conduct and accused it of intentionally stalling parliamentary business. He said Opposition members had created disruptions since morning, despite the Home Minister remaining present in Parliament throughout the day.

Rijiju asserted that the Home Minister’s name alone instils fear among terrorists and insurgents. He claimed the Opposition had no intention of listening even if the Home Minister addressed the House.

Rijiju further alleged that Opposition MPs were attempting to hold Parliament to ransom and could not dictate House proceedings.

Chairperson Dilip Saikia also objected to members displaying banners and pamphlets inside the House despite repeated warnings. As the uproar continued without any sign of order, he adjourned the Lok Sabha until Monday.

Before the adjournment, the House passed the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Amendment) Bill through a voice vote.

Union MSME Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi introduced the Bill amid the noisy protests, and the House approved it despite the continued disruption.
