Veteran BJP leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani was admitted to Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in Delhi on Friday evening with a chest infection. Hospital officials said the 98-year-old leader was in stable condition.
Advani arrived at the hospital at around 07:30 PM and was admitted to the pulmonary department. A team of doctors is monitoring his condition, and medical investigations are underway.
The latest admission, however, follows several hospital visits in recent months.
Advani was admitted to Apollo Hospital in May this year for age-related health complications. He remained under medical care for several days before doctors discharged him.
In December 2024, Lal Krishna Advani was admitted to the intensive care unit at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital. Doctors conducted medical management and investigations.
A neurologist supervised his treatment, and the hospital later reported that his condition was gradually improving.
Born on November 8, 1927, in Karachi, now in Pakistan, Advani was a key figure in the BJP’s rise as a major national political party. He further served as the party’s president several times and played a significant role in expanding its organisational presence across the country.
Lal Krishna Advani’s 1990 Ram Rath Yatra became a defining moment in Indian politics. It helped expand the BJP’s political reach.
Advani served as Deputy Prime Minister from 2002 to 2004 in the government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He further held important portfolios, including the Home Affairs Ministry.
In recognition of his contribution to public life, the government awarded Advani the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour, in 2024. He received the Padma Vibhushan in 2015.
