Ladakh: IT Department’s Administrative Secretary Amit Sharma Reviews Progress Of SWAN In UT

Amit Sharma, the Administrative Secretary of Ladakh’s Information Technology (IT) Department, conducted a review meeting of the State Wide Area Network (SWAN) progress at the Civil Secretariat. Amit Sharma, under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor Brigadier Dr. B.D. Mishra (Retired) and Advisor Dr. Pawan Kotwal, highlighted the UT government’s top priority of ensuring connectivity to citizens, which will soon become a reality through the expansion of SWAN.

The Director-General of Information Technology, R&D, mentioned that foundational infrastructure, including sheds and platforms for generators, is being set up for the generator sets. Meanwhile, IT Secretary Amit Sharma discussed the immediate installation of SWAN infrastructure on prepared sites with vendor M/s. Inspira. He instructed his teams from the IT and Rural Development departments to take necessary steps to ensure the expected bandwidth and electricity connectivity at each site to avoid delays beyond the project’s designated timeline.

Before concluding the meeting, he assured that SWAN infrastructure would be prepared in Ladakh well before the harsh winters start, so that it can benefit the public on a large scale, as connecting with important Panchayat Raj institutions and the local population is challenging without it. Amit Sharma expressed satisfaction with the progress, particularly in the SWAN project, through inspections and field visits by department teams. Still, he advised maintaining a consistent pace to ensure that SWAN goes live in Ladakh as soon as possible.

Several stakeholders involved in this significant project participated in this meeting, including Tahir Hussain, Director of Rural Development, Assistant Commissioner, Leh and Kargil Development, Deputy Secretary IT, Under Secretary Rural Development, and representatives from M/s. Inspira (Vendor), Narendra Sharma, and their team.
