KTR Reacts To Party MLA’s Defection To Congress

Bharat Rashtra Samiti working president K.T. Rama Rao has expressed his strong displeasure over the defection of a BRS MLA to Congress. Taking to platform X KTR said that power of people is always stronger.

A BRS MLA from Jagtial M. Sanjay Kumar has defected to the the ruling Congress.

“The power of people is always stronger than the people in power. We have faced several defections of MLAs in the past in 2004-06 when Congress was in Government. Telangana responded strongly by stepping up the people’s agitation and eventually Congress had to bow its head. History shall repeat itself,” KTR wrote on platform X.

On Sunday, Sanjay Kumar joined the Congress, and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy was present.

Sanjay was welcomed into the party by the Chief Minister, who also serves as the President of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC).

Present were Chief Minister’s advisor Vem Narender Reddy, former minister Sudershan Reddy, and Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy.

In the elections held in November 2023, Sanjay was re-elected from the Jagtial Assembly constituency in the Nizamabad district for a second straight term.

This makes him the fifth BRS MLA to change allegiance since Congress took office in December of last year. This occurred two days following Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, a former assembly speaker and senior leader, joining the Congress party.

Pocharam Srinivas Reddy is a well-known leader from the Nizamabad area and a BRS MLA.

39 seats in the 119-member Assembly had been secured by BRS. Its current strength stands at 33, after the ruling party defeated it in the most recent Secunderabad Cantonment by-election.
