K’taka Landslide: Three Dead, 15 Suspected To Be Under Rubble

With three more dead bodies found from under the debris in k’taka landslide the death toll has risen to seven. It is suspected that at least 15 persons are trapped beneath the rubble in the landslide-affected area of Shirur in Karnataka’s Uttara Kannada district, where authorities found three bodies on Thursday, according to officials.

The three deceased have been named as Avantika, age five, Murugan, age 45, and Chinna, age 55. Avantika was the daughter of tea shop owner Laxman Naik, whose family was completely destroyed in the accident.

According to sources, Murugan and Chinna were Tamil Nadu-based gas truck drivers. Authorities found these victims in the Gangavali River 35 to 40 kilometers apart, close to the environs of the Hindu pilgrimage site Gokarna.

Authorities clarified that they had tracked the GPS whereabouts. They have tracked GPS of a truck that was hidden behind the rubble and a Mercedes vehicle that was carrying a family. Arjun has been recognized as the truck driver. Many individuals are thought to be trapped on an island that has formed in the Gangavali River.

K’taka landslide wipes out an entire family

Unceasing rain, and numerous landslides, including one on the highway, have hindered the rescue effort in the area.

The area experienced nonstop rain for a week, which caused the landslide. Personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), emergency services, and the fire department are conducting a search.

Near the Gangavali River, a tea store and a nearby house collapsed, burying and washing away the people who had gathered to sip tea. It also wiped away the tea shop owner’s entire family. Truck, parked next to the business, also tumbled into the river and washed away after the landslide.

So far, authorities have recovered the number of bodies. It included mortal remains of two truck drivers, one unidentified guy, Laxman Naik, the owner of the tea shop, his wife Shanthi Naik, their son Roshan, and their daughter Avantika.
