Kiran Reddy joined Bhartiya Janata Party on Friday. Senior party members welcomed Mr. Reddy into the organization at the party’s headquarters in New Delhi. He claimed he joined the BJP to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s plans for national security and prosperity.
Earlier, he left the Congress party after giving a one-line resignation to Mallikarjun Kharge. The resignation said, “Please accept this letter as my resignation from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress.” Well, this was not the first time when he resigned from the Congress party. He did the same in the year 2014 as well. He took this step to protest against the then UPA government’s decision of dividing Andhra state to form two different ones ad Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. There were a lot of political protests on the same matter.
Following his resignation, he formed his own party ‘Jai Samaikyandhra’. He even managed to elect his candidates in some constituencies in the 2014 elections. But ahead of this, he found no electoral gains in the political game, so he went back to Congress’s doorstep. He joined the national party back in the year 2018.

Elections are coming up in the state of Andhra in the coming year 2024. Reddy has shifted his position keeping that in mind. The main opposition Telugu Desam Party and the ruling YSR Congress have engaged in a savage political struggle in the state already. Mr. Reddy, who comes from and has significant influence in the Rayalaseema region, is anticipated to increase the BJP’s position there. The BJP, which is attempting to establish itself as a third option in the state, is also expected to promote him as a prospective candidate for chief minister.
Reacting to Mr. Reddy’s resignation, Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP Manickam Tagore said those who got everything from the party and finished the Andhra Pradesh Congress now leave for the BJP. This move by Mr. Reddy will surely have an implication on the results of future elections in the state.
