Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday extended a warm welcome to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Thiruvananthapuram, describing the occasion as a ‘cherished moment of satisfaction’ for the state.
The Prime Minister arrived to inaugurate and dedicate a series of major development initiatives.
Welcoming PM Modi at the official function, the Chief Minister also greeted dignitaries on the dais, including Governor Rajendra V Arlekar, Thiruvananthapuram Mayor VV Rajesh, Union Minister of State George Kurian, Local Self-Government Minister MB Rajesh, MP Shashi Tharoor, former Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar, senior officials and beneficiaries of various welfare schemes.
CM Vijayan said the Prime Minister’s visit would significantly accelerate Kerala’s development.
He highlighted the laying of the foundation stone for the CSIR–NIIST Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship Hub, the inauguration of the new Poojappura Head Post Office, and the launch of the PM SVANidhi scheme, which benefits one lakh street vendors.
He noted that the programme also included the distribution of credit cards and loan disbursement cheques to beneficiaries under the scheme.
The Chief Minister also underscored the importance of the Prime Minister flagging off three Amrit Bharat Express trains and one passenger train, calling the new rail services vital for improving connectivity and economic activity in the state.
Expressing gratitude to the Centre, CM Vijayan said the state government had consistently sought approval for several of these projects.
He voiced hope that the Union government’s support for Kerala would continue and that pending demands in other sectors would also receive due consideration.
Concluding his address, the Chief Minister expressed confidence that the projects would be implemented in a time-bound manner and reiterated his welcome to the Prime Minister, reflecting a spirit of cooperative federalism.
