Kejriwal Seeks Bail Amid Judicial Custody In Liquor Policy Scam

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, currently under 14-day judicial custody until 12 July, has petitioned the Delhi High Court for bail in the corruption case linked to the alleged liquor policy scam.

On Wednesday, his bail plea mentioned before a bench presided over by Acting Chief Justice (ACJ) Manmohan for urgent listing.

CM Kejriwal’s lawyer urged the court to take up the bail plea for hearing on Thursday. In response, the ACJ assured that the court will hear CM Kejriwal’s bail petition on Friday, 5 July.

In parallel with legal developments, the Delhi High Court issued a notice on Tuesday regarding a plea filed by CM Kejriwal challenging his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Justice Neena Bansal Krishna’s bench directed the central agency to submit its response by 17 July.

The sequence of events began on 26 June when the CBI arrested CM Kejriwal and produced him before the Rouse Avenue Court, resulting in his three-day CBI custody for interrogation.

The court granted the CBI permission to produce CM Kejriwal in the special court after questioning him in Tihar Jail.

Recently, the Delhi High Court stayed a trial court order that had granted bail to CM Kejriwal in a money laundering case, citing that the lower court did not properly consider the presented documents and arguments.

In a related matter, the Supreme Court reserved its verdict in May on CM Kejriwal’s petition challenging his arrest and subsequent remand by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the excise policy case.

The apex court had previously granted him a 21-day interim bail considering the general elections.
