Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal expressed joy over the party’s entry into the J&K Legislative Assembly. He greeted AAP candidate Mehraj Malik, who won the Doda seat in the Jammu division. Kejriwal praised Malik’s work for the people of Doda, stating, “Your victory is the people’s vindication of the good work in which you have been engaged.” He added, “I congratulate you for your victory, and we are all proud of you.”
Malik reminded Kejriwal of his previous prediction about winning. He invited Kejriwal to visit Doda on October 10. “Sir, you have to be here on October 10 as I communicated through Sanjayji. After my victory, the people of Doda deserve a visit by you,” Malik said.
Kejriwal agreed to the visit, promising to thank the voters personally. He stated, “I will be in Doda on October 10 to thank the people who voted for the AAP.”
The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced results for all 90 assembly seats in J&K. The National Conference emerged as the single largest party with 42 seats, followed by the BJP with 29. Congress secured 6 seats, the PDP 3, CPI-M 1, Peoples Conference 1, AAP 1, and independents claimed 7.
Former J&K Chief Minister and NC Vice President Omar Abdullah won both Budgam and Ganderbal seats. In contrast, Iltija Mufti, daughter of PDP President Mehbooba Mufti, lost her first election in the Srigufwara-Bijbehara constituency, a traditional stronghold of the Mufti family.
