Kedarnath Rescue Operations Intensify Amid Heavy Rainfall

Uttarakhand Police Headquarters reported significant damage across several routes in Kedarnath following heavy rainfall on Wednesday night.

The district administration, along with police and various security forces, is actively working to rescue stranded pilgrims and locals.

Authorities are striving to ensure everyone’s safe return through coordinated efforts at all levels.

Simultaneously, manual rescue operations are being conducted to expedite the process.

The Rudraprayag administration has provided updates regarding casualties and missing persons.

Two bodies have been recovered in the Lincholi area, and there are currently no reports of missing individuals.

Connectivity issues have made it difficult for travellers to contact their families.

In response, the district police have set up multiple helpline and emergency numbers to keep families informed.

A Wi-Fi network has also been established at the prepaid counter in Bhimbali to facilitate communication.

The administration has ensured that adequate food, water, and accommodation are available for those stranded at various stops.

On Friday, helicopter services successfully airlifted and rescued 599 people.

To date, 2,024 pilgrims have been rescued between Sonprayag and Jungle Chatti, and 161 from Chomasi.

In total, 7,234 travellers have been safely rescued through both helicopter and manual methods since the operations began.

Continuous rainfall has posed challenges, leading to temporary halts in rescue efforts. Authorities are keeping all travellers at safe locations until conditions improve.

Rescue teams from NDRF, SDRF, DDRF, the Forest Department, district police, and fire and emergency services are working tirelessly to assist those affected.
