Kanpur: A case of rape involving an 80-year-old woman came to light in the Bilhaur police station area of Kanpur city, Uttar Pradesh, on Thursday night. Upon receiving notice of the incident, the police promptly registered a case and initiated a search for the perpetrator.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police West, Vijendra Dwivedi, stated on Friday that the elderly woman was sleeping alone at home on Thursday night in the Bilhaur police station area. Subsequently, a 22-year-old youth residing in the neighborhood entered her house while under the influence of alcohol and perpetrated the assault. When she resisted, he assaulted her, resulting in the victim’s tooth being broken. Upon the old woman raising an alarm, the assailant fled by jumping over the wall. The police were alerted by the family and swiftly transported the victim to the hospital for treatment.
Preliminary investigations by the police have revealed that the victim and the accused are neighbors of the same caste residing in the same locality. The victim is believed to be the grandmother of the accused by familial relation. The accused is employed as a laborer, loading hay onto a straw cart, and has a history of alcohol addiction. Currently, the accused is at large following the incident. A case has been registered based on the complaint filed by the victim’s family, and efforts are underway to locate the accused.
