MLAs belonging to the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Congress, who were relocated to Hyderabad amid concerns of potential poaching by the BJP ahead of a crucial floor test in the state, have returned to Jharkhand. Video footage shared by news agency ANI captured their arrival at Shamshabad airport after their stay at the Leonia resort.
The decision to move the MLAs to Hyderabad came amidst JMM’s apprehensions of BJP attempting to sway their members, particularly after Champai Soren assumed the role of Chief Minister following Hemant Soren’s arrest by the Enforcement Directorate. Champai Soren emphasized the necessity of this move, stating, “We can’t take any chance during this period as the BJP might try to contact our MLAs.”
JMM claims the backing of 47 MLAs out of the 81-member Jharkhand assembly. Supriyo Bhattacharya, JMM’s general secretary, expressed confidence in securing a majority in the upcoming floor test, stating, “We have the support of 47 members. Even those who had not signed the support letter have clarified their stand. Our MLA, Sita Soren, attended the swearing-in, while Lobin Hembrom has also announced his support today…”

Meanwhile, Bhattacharya criticized the Jharkhand governor for the delay in facilitating government formation, questioning why the new legislature party leader wasn’t immediately sworn in. Champai Soren was sworn in as Chief Minister of Jharkhand on Friday, with Alamgir Alam from the Congress and Satyanand Bhokta from the RJD also taking their oaths as cabinet ministers on the same day.
