Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday evening for a three-day official visit to participate in the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) welcomed the visiting leader and said Minister of State Dr Jitendra Singh received her.
The Ministry added that the visit marks an important step in advancing the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership.
Earlier in the day, Japan’s Ambassador to India, Ono Keiichi, said Takaichi’s visit would provide a significant opportunity to strengthen people-to-people exchanges. He made the remarks during the Japan Session of the Human Resource Mobility Forum, hosted by the MEA, where emerging pathways for India-Japan collaboration in skill-based mobility were also highlighted.
Before departing from Tokyo, Takaichi said she hoped to advance concrete cooperation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in three key areas:
PM Sanae Takaichi also noted that the Japan-India Joint Economic Forum, involving representatives from more than 150 Japanese companies and business organisations, would take place during the visit to broaden bilateral economic cooperation. She said India and Japan share responsibility for maintaining peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific and looked forward to discussions with Prime Minister Modi on a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP), including cooperation through the Quad framework.
On Thursday, PM Sanae Takaichi will receive a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan before holding the Annual Summit with Prime Minister Modi. The two leaders will likely review the full spectrum of bilateral cooperation and discuss regional and global issues.
Takaichi will also attend a business forum during what is her first official visit to India since assuming office.
