Jan Aushadhi Diwas 2026: PM Modi Praises Impact Of Affordable Medicines Programme

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday extended his wishes on the occasion of Jan Aushadhi Diwas 2026 and highlighted the impact of the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) in providing affordable medicines to citizens across India.

Sharing a message on the social media platform X, the Prime Minister conveyed his greetings to all those associated with the initiative, including beneficiaries who have been positively impacted by the scheme.

He said the programme reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that every citizen has access to quality medicines at affordable prices.

According to PM Modi, the expanding network of Jan Aushadhi Kendras has helped many families reduce their healthcare expenses while receiving proper medical treatment.

The Prime Minister also shared a post by MyGovIndia highlighting the achievements of the Janaushadhi initiative.

The post noted that people suffering from long-term illnesses often face financial stress due to the high cost of medicines.

The scheme aims to address this issue by making essential medicines affordable and accessible so that families do not have to bear heavy healthcare costs.

Official data shows that Jan Aushadhi Kendras sell medicines at prices 50 to 80 per cent lower than branded alternatives, significantly reducing treatment expenses for millions of people.

The initiative has helped citizens save more than ₹40,000 crore so far through the purchase of affordable medicines from these centres.

On average, around 15 lakh customers buy medicines daily from Jan Aushadhi Kendras, reflecting growing public trust in the scheme.

The number of centres has expanded significantly, increasing from just 80 outlets in 2014 to nearly 18,000 in 2026.

These centres now offer more than 2,110 medicines and 315 surgical items, while also promoting menstrual hygiene through sanitary pads priced at ₹1 each.
