Jammu and Kashmir Marks First ‘Samvidhan Diwas’ Celebration Since 1950

On Tuesday, Jammu and Kashmir is observing ‘Samvidhan Diwas’, marking the first time since 1950 that the region is celebrating the adoption of India’s Constitution by Parliament.

The government has issued directives to ensure grand celebrations for Constitution Day.

Officials stated, “Considering the significance of the completion of 75 years of adoption of the Constitution, people are celebrating the day with great fervour and enthusiasm to reiterate the core values enshrined in the Constitution of India and motivate citizens to take their rightful role in the campaign. This year holds special significance as it commemorates 75 years of the ‘Hamara Samvidhan, Hamara Swabhimaan’.”

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will lead the Constitution Day events in the Union Territory, with the main ceremony likely to take place at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar. The event will include a reading of the Preamble to the Constitution.

Hamara Samvidhan, Hamara Swabhimaan: Promoting Constitutional Values Across Jammu and Kashmir

Under the theme ‘Hamara Samvidhan, Hamara Swabhimaan’, similar ceremonies will take place across Jammu and Kashmir, including in government offices, public sector undertakings (PSUs), educational institutions, and rural areas.

These activities aim to promote awareness about the Constitution and its importance in shaping the nation’s democratic values.

To ensure widespread participation, organizers will upload photographs of the events to the dedicated website www.constitution75.com, and citizens can track updates on the MyGov web portal.

The General Administration Department (GAD) has issued directives to divisional commissioners, department heads, deputy commissioners, and PSU managing directors to coordinate and ensure the success of these ceremonies across various locations.

In line with the celebrations, the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh has also ordered the reading of the Preamble.

In an order, Shahzad Azeem, Registrar General of the High Court asserted, “26th November is celebrated as Constitution Day. The available senior Hon’ble Judge at each wing of the High Court will lead the reading of the Preamble to the Constitution, whereas, the Principal District Judges shall lead the reading of the Preamble to the Constitution at their respective District Headquarters and the senior most Judicial Officer at Taluka Court.”

He further added that that the Registrar Judicial for both the Jammu and Srinagar wings of the High Court will be responsible for making all necessary arrangements for the ceremony to read the Preamble of the Constitution in their respective locations.
