Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made a heartfelt appeal to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to cast their votes in large numbers, marking the beginning of the first phase of the union territory’s Assembly elections ¹. This significant election is the first since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019.
In a post on social media platform X, PM Modi emphasized the importance of participating in the democratic process, saying, “As the first phase of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections begins, I urge all those in constituencies going to the polls today to vote in large numbers and strengthen the festival of democracy.” He specifically encouraged young and first-time voters to exercise their franchise enthusiastically.

Over 23.27 lakh voters across seven districts, including Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam, Shopian, Banihal, Kishtwar, and Doda, are eligible to cast their votes in the first phase, determining the fate of 219 candidates.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also took to X, urging citizens to safeguard their rights and vote for a new era of development and full statehood. He emphasized that every single vote holds the power to shape the future and bring about peace, stability, justice, and economic empowerment.
