India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a telephonic conversation on Monday to discuss the ongoing West Asia crisis and its broader implications.
In a post on X, Jaishankar said he had a ‘detailed telecon’ with Rubio, marking their first interaction following the escalation of tensions involving Iran. He noted that the discussion focused on the conflict and its impact on the international economy.
The two leaders also emphasised energy security concerns, given the region’s critical role in global oil and gas supplies.
Jaishankar further added that both sides agreed to remain in touch as the situation evolves.
In Washington, the US State Department confirmed the call, stating that both officials discussed the current situation in the Middle East and underlined the importance of continued cooperation.
Principal Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott said the two leaders agreed to work together to advance mutual priorities.
The conversation comes amid rising tensions in West Asia, which have put pressure on global markets and heightened volatility in energy prices.
Developments in the region continue to influence investor sentiment and economic outlook worldwide.
India and the United States have significantly strengthened their strategic partnership over the past decade, expanding cooperation in defence, technology, and energy sectors.
West Asia remains a crucial region for both nations, with stability directly affecting global trade, inflation, and energy flows.
Continued diplomatic engagement is seen as essential to address emerging challenges and maintain economic stability.
