Welcoming the visiting delegation, Jaishankar said India and Austria shared warm and friendly ties. He noted that the meeting provided an opportunity to review progress on agreements and understandings reached during the Austrian Chancellor’s visit to India in April.
Jaishankar said both countries could work together to promote international peace and security amid challenging global circumstances. He congratulated Austria on becoming a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), expressing India’s interest in continuing cooperation within the UN framework.
Jaishankar highlighted expanding collaboration in science and technology, climate issues and people-to-people exchanges. He said economic cooperation was progressing well but offered scope for further growth.
The Minister referred to strengthening India-European Union relations and expressed hope that the India-EU free trade agreement would enter into force in the coming months. He added that cooperation in security and defence was advancing, underlining the broader scope of the bilateral partnership.
Meinl-Reisinger is on an official visit to India until November 2. After completing her engagements in New Delhi, she will attend various events in Jaipur from October 29 to November 2.
