The purple line of the Bengaluru metro is scheduled to become fully operational on October 9 after numerous delays and missed deadlines. The two pending lines, Krishnarajapuram-Baiyappanahalli and Kengeri-Challaghatta, according to the Namma Metro, are ready to go, and Whitefield-Challaghatta will begin full operation tomorrow.
On the first day, there won’t be any formal or casual events. According to PC Mohan, a member of parliament for Bengaluru Central, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed particular interest in this purple line and gave the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) officials the go-ahead to build it right away. He said on X that “PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji has directed BMRCL to commence services on the new stretches of the Purple Line (Challaghatta to Kengeri and Baiyappanahalli to Whitefield) without postponing operations for a formal inauguration ceremony with VIP presence.”
The freshly built KR Puram-Baiyappanahalli and Kengeri-Challaghatta lines had already been examined by the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS). Both metro segments on the purple line have obtained the go-ahead and clearance from CMRS for their safety.
Tejasvi Surya, a member of parliament for Bengaluru South, recently criticized the Congress-led state administration for persistently delaying the opening of the KR Puram-Baiyappanahalli metro line. “Every day, between 5 and 6 lakh people use the Bengaluru metro. If the Baiyappanahalli-KR Puram metro segment opens, roughly 50–60% of this population will benefit. The state administration is still delaying the launch of this line despite receiving all approvals and the CMRS’s approval following its inspection, according to Surya.

And he added, “However, the state government is not opening the operations to the public only because it is waiting for either Rahul Gandhi or some other leader of the Congress to come and inaugurate this project.”
