IRCTC Scam Case: Tejashwi Yadav Appears In Court, Requests Permission To Travel Abroad

In today’s proceedings at Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court, the IRCTC scam case, concerning tenders for railway hotels, took center stage. One of the key figures in this case is Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister, Tejashwi Yadav, who is among the accused. The court has fixed the next hearing for October 20, during which Tejashwi Yadav and his mother, Rabri Yadav, will have the opportunity to present their arguments.

During today’s hearing, Tejashwi Yadav made a request for permission to travel abroad and submitted an application for the issuance of his passport. In response to this request, the court has scheduled a separate hearing on October 16 to address this matter. Additionally, the court has instructed the submission of a copy of the case application to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Summary of case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has conducted a thorough investigation into this complex case, and the court is now in the process of hearing the case based on the chargesheet filed by the CBI. Notably, the court has levied charges against 16 individuals, including prominent political figures such as Lalu Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav.

This case traces back to the period when Lalu Yadav held the position of Railway Minister. Between 2004 and 2009, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) entrusted the management of hotels in Ranchi and Puri to a specific company. In exchange for this responsibility, the said company allegedly provided Lalu Yadav with three acres of benami land in Patna. This land deal came to light amid allegations of irregularities in the tendering process for hotels in Ranchi and Puri.

The CBI has conducted multiple rounds of interrogations in connection with this case, including questioning Lalu Yadav and Rabri Devi on several occasions. Furthermore, Tejashwi Yadav’s involvement in this case has recently emerged as a significant development.

This ongoing case continues to be a matter of great significance and public interest, as it involves allegations of corruption and irregularities within the Indian Railways.
