Indira Gandhi Marathon: Yogesh Clinches Title, Kuldeep & Nishant Finish Strong

The 39th edition of the prestigious All-India Indira Gandhi Prize Money Marathon took place in Sangam City on Tuesday, coinciding with the birth anniversary of the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant and Sports Director RP Singh flagged off the marathon, which saw participation from runners across the country.

In the men’s category, Yogesh from Hyderabad emerged as the winner, followed by Kuldeep Singh of Bhadohi in second place, and Nishant from Ghaziabad securing the third spot.

In the women’s category, Reenu from Haryana claimed second place, while Seema from Delhi finished third.

The marathon commenced at the iconic Anand Bhawan and traversed several notable landmarks in the city, including Swaraj Bhawan, Allahabad University, and the Divisional Commissioner’s residence, before passing through key locations such as Polo Ground Square, Hanuman Mandir Square, and the Allahabad High Court.

The race culminated at the Madan Mohan Malviya Stadium, marking the completion of the 42.195 km course.

Race Route & Logistics:

The runners embarked on their journey from Anand Bhawan at 6:30 AM, following a route through Swaraj Bhawan, Allahabad University, and various intersections such as Mayo Hall Crossing, Dhobi Ghat, and the AG Office Square.

The route also included several key landmarks like the High Court, Polo Ground, and Ambedkar Crossing, before heading toward the petrol pump on Dandupur-Rewa Road, where participants turned back and retraced their steps to finish at the stadium.

To ensure smooth coordination and avoid confusion, the sports department provided a team on motorcycles to lead the runners and guide them along the route.

This year, for the first time, each runner was provided with a free chip to track their exact running time, making the event more efficient and accurate.

Event Participation & Prizes:

A total of 175 men and 50 women registered for the marathon, and senior police officials ensured tight security and traffic arrangements to facilitate the event.

The Athletics Federation of India, the Uttar Pradesh Sports Department, and the Prayagraj district administration organized the marathon in collaboration.

The winners in both the men’s and women’s categories received a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh each, while the first runners-up earned Rs 1 lakh. The second runners-up were awarded Rs 75,000 each.

The organizers awarded 11 consolation prizes of Rs 10,000 each to participants finishing between 4th and 14th place in both categories.

With its competitive spirit and well-coordinated execution, the Indira Gandhi Prize Money Marathon once again proved to be a remarkable event, honoring the legacy of the late Prime Minister while celebrating athletic excellence.
