India’s Longest-Serving Elected Head; PM Modi Sets Record; Completes 8,931 Days

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a historic benchmark by becoming India’s longest-serving head of an elected government, completing 8,931 days in office.

This milestone surpasses the record held by Pawan Kumar Chamling, who served 8,930 days as Chief Minister of Sikkim.

The achievement combines PM Modi’s tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister and Prime Minister, marking his entry into the 25th year of continuous leadership.

Observers regard this as a rare feat, reflecting sustained governance and enduring public mandate.

Prime Minister Modi has established several records during his political journey. He remains the longest-serving Chief Minister of Gujarat and the Prime Minister with the most extensive prior experience as a state leader.

He also became the first Indian Prime Minister born after Independence.

Milestone In Leadership Journey

The Prime Minister secured victories in three consecutive Lok Sabha elections in 2014, 2019, and 2024, underscoring consistent electoral dominance.

PM Modi assumed office as Gujarat Chief Minister on October 7, 2001, and led the state for over 13 years before taking national charge in 2014.

He took oath as India’s 14th Prime Minister on May 26, 2014, becoming the first non-Congress leader to achieve a full majority in the Lok Sabha.

He later became the first non-Congress Prime Minister to complete two full terms and return for a third.

Beyond governance, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expanded his digital presence.

He crossed 30 million YouTube subscribers, 100 million Instagram followers, and currently holds over 106.4 million followers on X, reinforcing his global outreach.
