Indian Railways Recruited Five Lakh Employees In A Decade; Surpassing Previous Record

Indian Railways has recruited as many as five lakh employees over the last ten years, exceeding the 4.4 lakh individuals hired in the preceding decade.

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared these figures, emphasizing the historic achievement during a national convention of the All India SC/ST Railway Employees Association.

For the first time in its history, Indian Railways introduced an annual recruitment calendar, a move Vaishnaw highlighted as a key factor in achieving this milestone.

Addressing the gathering, the minister also detailed the Railways’ current production plans, including the manufacturing of new special and general coaches.

Among these, 12,000 general coaches are under production, aimed at easing travel for the common man and improving overall accessibility.

Minister Vaishnaw paid homage to Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar at Deekshabhoomi’s Central Memorial and unveiled a commemorative souvenir honoring the association’s contributions. He also lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s respectful gesture of bowing to the Constitution before stepping into Parliament.

Ashwini Vaishnaw stated, “Respect for the Constitution goes beyond symbolism; it is reflected in action.”

India observes Constitution Day, or ‘Samvidhan Divas’, annually on 26 November.

This year, the day coincides with the 133rd birth anniversary of Dr. BR Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Indian Constitution. The Indian Constitution, formally adopted on 26 November 1949, came into effect on 26 January 1950. This year’s observance marks the 75th anniversary of the adoption of this seminal document, celebrating its role in shaping the nation as a sovereign, democratic republic.
