Indian Railways has approved two infrastructure projects worth around Rs 275 crore to strengthen railway capacity and improve operational efficiency.
The government cleared a Rs 142-crore upgrade of the electric traction system on the 73-kilometre Savalyapuram-Guntur section of South Coast Railway.
The project will cover 146 Track Kilometres. It will reinforce electric traction infrastructure and increase capacity to support rising railway operations.
The upgraded traction system will strengthen power supply for electric train services. It will help Indian Railways handle growing traffic requirements more efficiently.
The intervention will improve the capacity and reliability of this important HUN route. It will support smoother train operations and strengthen the regional rail network, according to an official statement.
Indian Railways has separately approved a four-lane Road Over Bridge on the Udhna-Ukai Songadh section of Western Railway. The project will cost Rs 133.2295 crore and will follow a cost-sharing arrangement with the state government.
Railways will contribute Rs 66.6147 crore, while the state government will provide Rs 66.6148 crore.
The grade-separated bridge will improve road traffic flow and reduce interference with railway operations. It will support safer and more reliable train movement and improve passenger convenience.
The crossing has a 62 per cent skew, creating significant design and construction challenges. The viaduct will extend 311.58 metres and cost an estimated Rs 19.98 crore.
The Railway Approach portion will measure 524.32 metres and cost an estimated Rs 10.25 crore, the official statement said.
