Surya Kiran trainer aircraft crashes near Chamrajnagar
On Thursday, a trainer aircraft belonging to the Indian Air Force (IAF) went down in a field in Chamarajanagar, Karnataka. As per IAF authorities, the Surya Kiran mentor airplane crashed close to Makali town in Chamarajanagar during a standard preparation fight. However, the aircraft’s two pilots safely ejected.
“Both pilots, including a lady pilot, are safe,” said officials. The pilots of the aircraft have been identified and were shifted to Bengaluru using a helicopter. The Indian Air Force has ordered a court of inquiry to look into the accident with the trainer aircraft.
Talking about the crash, the Indian Air Force tweeted, “A Kiran trainer aircraft of the IAF crashed near Chamrajnagar, Karnataka, today, while on a routine training sortie. Both aircrews ejected safely. A Court of Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident.”
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is the manufacturer of the Kiran trainer aircraft that was involved in the crash. It made its first flight in 1964. The IAF uses Hawk jets to provide pilots with intermediate training, or Stage 2 training, prior to moving on to the next stage of training.

The incident occurs following the May 8 crash in Rajasthan of a MiG-21 fighter aircraft owned by the Indian Air Force. During a routine flight, the aircraft went down near Hanumangarh. Three people were killed in the incident after the aircraft’s pilot successfully ejected.
