India Sets Guinness World Record With 4.5 Lakh People Joining Online Yoga Session

Ahead of the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY-2026), India achieved a major global milestone by setting a new Guinness World Record for the largest number of people performing yoga together online.

The ‘Yoga 365’ initiative featured a massive online Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) programme on June 14, 2026, to promote the practice of yoga throughout the year across the world.

The event was livestreamed on YouTube and witnessed the participation of approximately 4.5 lakh people from India and abroad, who joined simultaneously to perform yoga under the Common Yoga Protocol.

Union Minister of Ayush Prataprao Jadhav led the programme, while the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) and Habuild jointly organised it under the guidance of the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India.

The International Naturopathy Organisation (INO) also played a key role as a supporting partner in the initiative.

Union Ayush Minister Prataprao Jadhav, Ayush Ministry Secretary Padma Shri Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha and several senior Ministry officials attended the historic occasion.

According to experts, the initiative demonstrated how technology and health can work together effectively to encourage healthier lifestyles through digital platforms.

Following verification of the participation figures, the Guinness World Records team officially recognised the achievement.

To mark International Yoga Day, Surya Foundation and the International Naturopathy Organisation (INO) are conducting a nationwide yoga campaign from June 1 to June 21, 2026, aimed at training and encouraging people to adopt yoga.

Organisers will hold grand yoga programmes across nearly 500 districts in all states on June 21, making it the largest celebration of the event.

Organisers estimate that more than 30 lakh people will participate in the events.

Yoga 365 Vision

This year’s central theme is ‘Yoga 365’, which promotes the idea of making yoga a daily lifestyle practice rather than limiting it to a single day of observance.

The large-scale participation reflects the growing popularity of yoga and the expansion of the ‘Yoga 365’ vision into a nationwide movement.
