India Sends Urgent Relief To Myanmar After Devastating Earthquake

India swiftly responded to Myanmar’s call for assistance after a series of powerful earthquakes devastated the country.

The tremors, which have resulted in over 144 deaths and injured hundreds, left Myanmar in urgent need of aid.

In response, India committed to sending 15 tonnes of emergency relief material to support the affected population.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has named the mission ‘Operation Brahma‘ as India responds swiftly to assist Myanmar following the massive earthquake.

The operation underscores India’s commitment as a first responder, providing vital humanitarian aid.

Prime Minister Modi’s Commitment

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his concern over the situation in Myanmar and neighboring Thailand after the powerful tremors.

Through a post on X, PM Modi assured the governments of both countries of India’s readiness to provide all possible assistance in the aftermath of the earthquakes.

“India stands ready to offer all possible assistance,” said PM Modi, reaffirming India’s commitment to supporting Myanmar during this crisis.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stated that India is committed to providing urgent assistance to Myanmar in the wake of the devastating earthquakes. He assured that more aid will be sent as the situation unfolds.

Relief Materials & Airlift

The aid package includes essential supplies such as tents, sleeping bags, ready-to-eat meals, water purifiers, hygiene kits, solar lamps, and life-saving medicines like antibiotics and painkillers.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) will airlift these materials aboard a C-130J aircraft from Air Force Station Hindon.

The relief efforts aim to provide shelter, clean water, and medical supplies to the affected communities.

Details Of The Earthquake

The earthquakes, including a magnitude 7.2 tremor and several aftershocks, caused significant structural damage across Myanmar, including the collapse of bridges and buildings.

The tremors also reached neighboring Thailand, causing panic in areas like Bangkok, although authorities in India and Bangladesh reported no major impact.

The Indian Embassy in Myanmar is closely monitoring the situation and confirms that no Indian citizens have sustained injuries.

The embassy is prioritizing the safety of Indian nationals in Myanmar and coordinating emergency assistance.

In addition to providing immediate relief, India commits to supporting Myanmar’s long-term rebuilding efforts.

India’s prompt response reflects its commitment to humanitarian aid and reinforces its strong relationship with Myanmar.

The country’s dedication to regional stability and disaster relief is evident through this significant aid mission, showcasing India as a crucial partner in Myanmar’s recovery from one of its most devastating earthquakes.

Through this swift action, India highlights its leadership in regional humanitarian efforts and underscores its role in supporting neighboring nations during times of crisis.
