India Secures 23 Green Hydrogen Offtake Deals Worth Over Rs 90,000 Crore

India has emerged as a global leader in Green Hydrogen supply commitments, with Indian companies signing 23 major offtake contracts for over 5,55,610 metric tonnes per annum (MTPA) as of October 2026.

The agreements represent investments exceeding Rs 90,000 crore, or approximately $9.5 billion, the government said on Thursday.

Minister of Education Pralhad Joshi said Indian developers had secured over 5.5 lakh MTPA in supply commitments.

More than 70 per cent of the supply will go to export markets.

Joshi said these deals would boost clean energy investment, create green jobs and advance India’s net-zero goals.

Indian companies signed 18 new offtake agreements in 2026 for more than 4 lakh MTPA of Green Hydrogen equivalent supply.

Indian suppliers are offering competitive prices for Green Ammonia and Green Methanol, strengthening their presence in European and Japanese markets. These fuels can support cleaner shipping, power generation and industrial decarbonisation.

ACME Group signed an agreement with Japan’s IHI for 4,88,000 MTPA of Green Ammonia and another with Mitsubishi Gas Chemical for 1,00,000 MTPA of Green Methanol.

Larsen & Toubro and ITOCHU formed a joint venture to supply 3,00,000 tonnes of Green Ammonia annually. Deliveries will begin in December 2029.

Reliance Industries signed a long-term Green Ammonia supply agreement worth over $3 billion with South Korea’s Samsung C&T Corporation.

The company expects to begin deliveries in 2028. Agastya is pursuing an agreement to supply 2,50,000 MTPA of Green Methanol to Sri Lanka’s SAR.

AM Green signed a 10-year deal with Germany’s Hintco worth at least 585 million euros. It signed agreements with Germany’s Uniper and Japan’s JERA.

Under the SIGHT programme, the government has secured agreements to supply 6,70,000 MTPA of Green Ammonia to 11 fertiliser units. It has further awarded projects to supply 30,000 MTPA of Green Hydrogen to four oil refineries.
