Prime Minister Narendra Modi underscored India’s rising influence in the global renewable energy sector, stating that the country has now secured the fourth position worldwide in overall wind energy capacity. He shared this update during his recent ‘Mann Ki Baat’ broadcast, calling it a testament to India’s sustainable development efforts.
The Prime Minister stated that India has added nearly 6 GW of wind energy capacity over the past year, a notable achievement. He pointed out that this development has attracted global attention and reflects the country’s capability to expand clean energy infrastructure at scale.
PM Modi remarked that this milestone represents more than just technological advancement, describing it as a symbol of collective national resolve. He noted that both government initiatives and public participation have contributed significantly to the shift towards a greener economy.
The Prime Minister highlighted that states such as Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan are playing a crucial role in driving renewable energy growth.
PM Modi also highlighted how regions like Kutch, Patan, and Banaskantha in Gujarat have transformed previously barren landscapes into major renewable energy centres.
The Prime Minister emphasised that the expansion of wind energy is also delivering socio-economic benefits. He noted that the sector is generating employment opportunities, particularly for youth in rural and semi-urban regions, while also encouraging the development of new skills.
Concluding his remarks, PM Modi stressed that adopting clean energy is a shared responsibility.
“Significant national change is the result of initiatives taken at every level of society,” he stated.
PM Modi further added that prioritising renewable energy alongside electricity conservation will help secure a stronger and more self-reliant future for India.
