India Marks One Year Of Operation Sindoor Launched After Pahalgam Terror Attack

On Thursday, India commemorated the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor, the military operation launched by the Indian armed forces in response to the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives last year.

The operation, conducted on May 6 and 7, targeted what officials described as major terrorist infrastructure located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Indian authorities had termed the action focused, measured and non-escalatory.

The April 22, 2025 attack in Pahalgam was carried out by Pakistan-backed terrorists, according to Indian agencies. The Resistance Front, believed to be linked to Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba, had claimed responsibility for the assault.

According to reports, the attackers identified victims on the basis of religion and allegedly forced people to recite the Islamic ‘kalima’. Among those killed were 25 tourists and a local pony ride operator who reportedly tried to protect visitors during the attack.

Several victims had recently married, while terrorists shot many of them in front of their family members.

Remembering Operation Sindoor on its first anniversary, the Indian Army described the mission as a ‘resolute, calibrated and precise response’.

“India’s resolute response calibrated and precise. Committed to safeguarding sovereignty and its people. #JusticeServed Jai Hind,” the Army said in a message posted on social media.

The Headquarters of the Indian Defence Staff also paid tribute to the operation, calling it a ‘symbol of national resolve’.

To mark the occasion, the Army released a video detailing the sequence of events that led to the strikes and the planning behind the military action against terror bases.

The video included statements made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the Pahalgam attack, where he vowed strict action against terrorism.

“India will identify, track and punish every terrorist and their backers,” PM Modi had said following the massacre.

Another statement from the Prime Minister featured in the video reiterated India’s diplomatic stand on terrorism.

“Terror and talk cannot go together. Terror and trade cannot go hand in hand. Water and blood will not flow together,” PM Modi had declared.

Officials said Operation Sindoor demonstrated India’s combined military and strategic response capability.

According to the government, the action helped neutralise terror threats and discourage further attacks. It also reinforced India’s zero-tolerance policy against terrorism.

The government said the operation maintained strategic restraint.
