India & Italy Reaffirm Strategic Ties In High-Level Tele-Call

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni engaged in a telephonic dialogue, reaffirming their mutual commitment to strengthening the India–Italy Strategic Partnership.

The Italian leader welcomed India’s upcoming AI Impact Summit in 2026, expressing full support for its success.

Prime Minister Modi expressed gratitude to Italy for backing the finalisation of a landmark India–EU trade agreement.

He also acknowledged Italy’s support for the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEEC) initiative, a pivotal connectivity project.

The two leaders also exchanged views on shared global concerns, including the conflict in Ukraine, urging a swift and peaceful resolution.

PM Modi reiterated India’s support for efforts aimed at restoring peace.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Had an excellent conversation with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. We reaffirmed our joint commitment to deepen India-Italy Strategic Partnership, and shared interest in bringing an early end to the conflict in Ukraine. Thanked PM Meloni for Italy’s proactive support for concluding a mutually beneficial India-EU trade agreement and promoting connectivity through the IMEEEC initiative.”

Broadening Bilateral Horizons

As per the Indian Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), PM Modi and Meloni reviewed progress across multiple sectors, including investment, defence, security, space, science and technology, education, people-to-people ties, and counter-terrorism.

They recommitted to further advancing their partnership in line with the India–Italy Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025–29.

The PMO also noted that this telephone call followed their interaction at the 51st G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada, earlier in June—an occasion where both leaders emphasised the strength of bilateral friendship.

Meloni had earlier shared a picture with PM Modi on X, captioned, “Italy and India, linked by a great friendship”

PM Modi reciprocated with his own message, posting, “Fully agree with you, PM Giorgia Meloni. India’s friendship with Italy will continue to get stronger, greatly benefitting our people!”

Their congenial rapport has generated social media traction under the hashtag #Melodi, reflecting both warmth and political synergy.

Earlier, following a tragic terrorist attack in Pahalgam (April 22, 2025), Meloni had condemned the violence and reaffirmed Italy’s steadfast support for India’s anti-terrorism efforts.

This high-level engagement underscores the rejuvenated momentum in India–Italy relations, spanning trade, technology, security, and global cooperation.

With the AI Impact Summit on the horizon and renewed focus on connectivity and diplomacy, both nations seem poised to deepen their partnership for mutual prosperity and regional stability.
