India: First Responder And Voice Of The Global South, Declares President Murmu

President Droupadi Murmu emphasized on Thursday that India’s human-centric approach has positioned the country as the first responder in any crisis, elevating it as a significant voice for the Global South.

Murmu highlighted India’s leadership in safeguarding humanity, whether during the COVID-19 pandemic, natural disasters, or conflicts. She credited the Union government’s efforts with instilling new confidence in the world, portraying Bharat as a “Vishwa-Bandhu” (global friend).

She noted the shifting global perspective towards India, which was particularly evident during the G-7 summit held in Italy. Furthermore, India’s G-20 presidency played a pivotal role in uniting the world on various issues. A significant achievement of this tenure was the inclusion of the African Union as a permanent member of the G-20, thereby bolstering the confidence of Africa and the broader Global South.

Murmu also underscored the importance of India’s ‘Neighbourhood First Policy’, which has strengthened relations with neighboring countries. This commitment was reflected in the participation of leaders from seven countries at the swearing-in ceremony of the Union Council of Ministers on June 9.

Highlighting the government’s focus on connectivity, she stated that in the spirit of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’, India is enhancing cooperation with countries in the Indo-Pacific region. She also mentioned that India’s vision has led to the creation of the India Middle East Europe Economic Corridor, which she believes will be one of the most transformative initiatives of the 21st century.
