India Commemorates Vijay Diwas, Honoring The Heroes Of The 1971 War

On Tuesday, the nation marked Vijay Diwas with deep reverence and gratitude, paying homage to the martyrs of the 1971 war. President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh led the commemoration, reflecting on India’s historic military triumph over Pakistan and the creation of Bangladesh as an independent nation.

Vijay Diwas celebrates the momentous victory in the 1971 India-Pakistan war, a conflict that resulted in the liberation of Bangladesh. This victory not only secured India’s military supremacy but also brought about the birth of a new nation, with India playing a crucial role in supporting the Mukti Bahini (Bangladeshi freedom fighters) and intervening militarily. The war culminated in the surrender of Pakistani forces, ensuring Bangladesh’s independence.

President Droupadi Murmu expressed heartfelt gratitude to the soldiers who fought in the 1971 war. Through a post on X (formerly Twitter), she wrote: “On Vijay Diwas, I pay homage to our valiant soldiers who displayed indomitable courage during the 1971 war, securing victory for India. A grateful nation further remembers the ultimate sacrifice of our bravehearts whose stories inspire every Indian and shall remain a source of national pride.” Her words reflected the nation’s deep sense of pride and gratitude for the ultimate sacrifice made by the soldiers.

Prime Minister Modi Honors The Courage And Sacrifice

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute to the soldiers’ unwavering dedication. In his message, he wrote: “Today, on Vijay Diwas, we honour the courage and sacrifices of the brave soldiers who contributed to India’s historic victory in 1971. Their selfless dedication and unwavering resolve further safeguarded our nation and brought glory to us. This day is a tribute to their extraordinary valour and their unshakable spirit. Their sacrifices will forever inspire generations and remain deeply embedded in our nation’s history.” Modi’s words further emphasized the lasting legacy of the 1971 war heroes.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Salutes The Armed Forces

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also took to social media to salute the unyielding spirit of India’s armed forces. He stated: “Today, on the special occasion of Vijay Diwas, the nation salutes the bravery and sacrifice of India’s armed forces. Their unwavering courage and patriotism ensured that our country remained safe. India will never forget their sacrifice and service.” Singh’s message underscored the nation’s debt to its armed forces for securing the country’s safety and preserving its sovereignty.
