India Builds Future-Ready Energy System, Highlights PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India is steadily developing a strong and future-ready energy system while ensuring environmental sustainability remains a priority. He noted that ongoing efforts are aimed at securing long-term energy needs efficiently.

Referring to a detailed write-up by Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, the Prime Minister encouraged citizens, “Union Minister Shri @mlkhattar reflects on how India is powering a robust energy ecosystem and shaping a sustainable atmosphere for the future needs as well! Key Highlights from Khattar’s Write-Up

Khattar pointed out that the power sector has undergone a remarkable shift in the last ten years. Electricity access now reaches almost all households. He added that energy shortages have been reduced to near-zero levels in practical terms.

The Minister also invited people to take part in the Bharat E Summit. It will be held from 19 to 22 March at Yashobhoomi.

The event is expected to highlight innovations, emerging technologies, and the future direction of India’s energy sector.

Khattar stated that sustained expansion in power generation and transmission infrastructure has led to a sharp decline in energy shortages. He noted that the deficit has fallen from 4.2 per cent in FY 2013–14. It now stands at just 0.03 per cent in FY 2025–26.

He further explained, “In FY 2025-26 alone (up to January 2026), a record 52.53 GW capacity from all sources has been added, the highest ever in a single year, surpassing the previous best of 34.05 GW in 2024-25.”

Electricity production in India has increased significantly. It rose from 1,020.2 billion units in FY 2014 to 1,830 billion units in FY 2025.

Per capita consumption has also climbed. It increased from 957 kWh to 1,460 kWh, indicating broader access and economic progress.

Khattar highlighted that these improvements have ensured, “This has ensured that every home, farm and industry has the reliable power it needs, and India is now the third largest producer and consumer of electricity in the world.”
