In the previous five years, milk output in India has increased by 22.81%; UP leads

In the last five years, the nation’s milk production has increased by 22.81%, with Uttar Pradesh accounting for the largest share of the total at 15.72%. The basic animal husbandry statistics for 2022–2023 were released in Guwahati on Sunday in honor of National Milk Day.

The data, which details the nation’s production of milk, eggs, meat, and wool, was made public by Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairy Parshottam Rupala. It is based on an animal integrated sample survey that was carried out between March of last year and February of this year.

According to Rupala, the nation’s total milk production is expected to reach 230.58 million tones in 2022–2023—a 22.81% increase over the previous five years, from 2018–19. The production in 2022–2023 exceeded the projections for 2021–2022 by 3.83%. The previous yearly growth rates were 5.81% in 2020–21, 5.69% in 2019–20, 5.77% in 2021–22, and 6.47% in 2018–19, he stated.

The top four states in the nation for milk production were Uttar Pradesh (14.44%), Rajasthan (14.44%), Madhya Pradesh (8.73%), Gujarat (7.59%), and Andhra Pradesh (6.70%).

According to Rupala, the nation’s total egg production is expected to reach 138.38 billion in 2022–2023 and has increased by 33.31% in the last five years compared to forecasts of 103.80 billion in 2018–19. The output grew by 6.77% yearly in 2022–2023 compared to 2021–2022. With a share of 20.13 percent of the total egg production, Andhra Pradesh leads the way, followed by Tamil Nadu (15.58 percent), Telangana (12.77 percent), West Bengal (9.94 percent), and Karnataka (6.51%).

According to the minister, the nation’s total meat production is expected to reach 9.77 million tones in 2022–2023, up 20.39% over the previous five years from forecasts of 8.11 million tones in 2018–19.

In addition, compared to 2021–2022, the production rose by 5.13% in 2022–2023. With a 12.20% share, Uttar Pradesh accounts for the largest portion of the nation’s meat output. West Bengal (11.93%), Maharashtra (11.50%), Andhra Pradesh (11.20%), and Telangana (11.06%) follow.

According to Rupala, the country’s total wool production is expected to be 33.61 million kg in 2022–2023; this represents a negative growth of 16.84% over the previous five years when compared to predictions of 40.42 million kg in 2018–19.

On the other hand, compared to 2021–2022, production increased by 2.12% in 2022–2023. The growth rates in the past have been -2.51% in 2018–19, -9.05% in 2019–20, -0.46% in 2020–21, and -10.87% in 2021–22.

According to him, Rajasthan contributes the most to the world’s total wool production—47.98%—followed by Gujarat (6.01%), Himachal Pradesh (4.27%), Jammu and Kashmir (22.55%), Maharashtra (4.73%), and Gujarat (6.01%).
