On Tuesday night in the tribal-dominated Mayurbhanj area, two intoxicated men ingested half-burnt flesh of a body on the flaming pyre at a cremation ground, horrifying bystanders. The incident was thought to be related to sorcery.
The horrifying occurrence happened in the Badasahi police district in the Jamun Bandhasahi village of Pratapur panchayat. The two suspects, Sundar Mohan Singh (58) and Narendra Singh (25), both from the neighbouring village of Dantuni, have been taken into custody.
According to reports, Sundar engaged in sorcery and committed cannibalism because he thought gaining supernatural abilities by eating the flesh of an unmarried lady. According to sources, the two consumed some of the flesh from the body of Madhusmita Singh, 25, who passed away early on Tuesday at PRM Medical College and Hospital (MCH).
Sama, Madhusmita’s father, claimed that he brought his sickly daughter to the MCH in Baripada for medical attention. She did, however, pass away from the condition. The woman’s body was carried to the village cremation site and burned after being subjected to an autopsy.
Sundar abruptly withdrew a piece of flesh from the smouldering corpse and cut it into three. He shared the last piece of meat with Narendra there and then flung the other two parts of it into the fire.
Sundar and Narendra were brutally thrashed by local villagers and members of the woman’s family after they were horrified by their behaviour. They called the police after tying the pair to a post.
In the middle of the night, Badasahi police unit arrived in the area. The suspects were taken to the police department. According to Badasahi IIC Sanjay Kumar Parida, a case was filed under sections 297 and 34 of the IPC, and the accused was taken into custody based on the father of Madhusmita’s complaint.
According to Parida, the pair ingested human flesh while intoxicated. They were presented in court on Wednesday, and more research is being done.
