Umesh Pal’s Case Conviction

Atiq Ahmed and two other people were found guilty of the kidnapping of Umesh Pal on Tuesday by an MP-MLA court in Prayagraj, and they were given life sentences of solitary confinement. Despite the fact that Atiq, a former Samajwadi Party (SP) MP, had more than 100 complaints filed against him over the years, this is his first conviction.

Counsel for the government Gulab Chandra Agrahari stated that section 364A (kidnapping or abduction with an order to murder) of the Indian Penal Code was cited to convict Ahmad, Saulat Hanif, a lawyer, and Dinesh Pasi.

In the murder investigation, the two brothers have also been named as suspects. The murder of former Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA Raju Pal on January 25, 2005, is what sparked the kidnapping case against Atiq, Ashraf, and nine other people. Umesh Pal, a member of the Zila Panchayat at the time, had admitted to police that he had seen Raju Pal being killed. Umesh Pal later claimed that he was kidnapped on February 28, 2006, at gunpoint because he defied Atiq’s request to recant.
