Humanity Takes The Back Seat: Daughter-Woman Burned Alive in Kanpur During Anti-Encroachment Drive

In the Kanpur Dehat area of Uttar Pradesh, a mother and daughter pair were burned down on Monday during an anti-encroachment drive.  The Police claimed that the family members burned themselves whereas the relatives had a different story to say. According to the reports the family members claimed that the women were allegedly killed after the family’s hut was set on fire by police who were on the property for the demolition effort.

The Hideous Crime in Madauli Village

The incident actually happened in the village of Madauli in the state of UP, when the police, district administration, and revenue officials had gone to clear encroachments from “gram samaj,” or government property. The residents argued that sufficient notice was not given to them.

“They started the fire while people were still inside. We were just about able to escape. They broke our temple. Nobody did anything, not even the DM (District Magistrate). Everybody ran, nobody could save my mother,” said Shivam Dixit.

Parmila Devi, 45, and her daughter Neha have been identified as the deceased (20 years old).

They Set Themselves On Fire: UP Police

According to what we understand, a mother and her daughter hid inside the hut and lit it on fire, which led to their deaths. We’ve arrived at the location. Each and every official who is involved is present. Superintendent of Police (SP) BBGTS Murthy stated, “We will look into it, and if there is any misconduct, we won’t spare the guilty.”

“Videos are taken with every anti-encroachment drive. We have requested the footage and will look into it, Murthy continued. The act caused a huge ruckus in the neighborhood as locals began throwing bricks at the police, who then left the scene.

For the brutal crime, the villagers are asking for an FIR to be filed against Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Maitha) Gyaneshwar Prasad, Lekhpal Singh, and others.
