The accident occurred around 4 AM between Rajkharsawan and Badabambo stations, approximately 80 kilometers from Jamshedpur, within the Chakradharpur railway division.

The derailment involved 18 coaches of the train, causing chaos and panic among the passengers, most of whom were asleep at the time.

Witnesses however described hearing a loud noise and feeling severe jolts as the coaches left the tracks, causing many to fall from their berths and scattering luggage throughout the train.

Authorities have further cancelled several trains and are rerouting others to avoid the accident site.

They are actively clearing the derailed coaches and rescuing trapped passengers using cranes and other heavy machinery.
