In a tragic incident early Tuesday morning, the Howrah-CSMT Express (train number 12810) derailed, resulting in the death of 2 passengers and injuring 50 others.
The accident occurred around 4 AM between Rajkharsawan and Badabambo stations, approximately 80 kilometers from Jamshedpur, within the Chakradharpur railway division.
The derailment involved 18 coaches of the train, causing chaos and panic among the passengers, most of whom were asleep at the time.
Witnesses however described hearing a loud noise and feeling severe jolts as the coaches left the tracks, causing many to fall from their berths and scattering luggage throughout the train.
Rescue and relief operations commenced promptly, with railway teams and senior officials from the Chakradharpur railway division arriving at the scene.
Aditya Kumar Choudhary, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of Chakradharpur, confirmed the derailment and the ongoing efforts to assist the affected passengers.
Meanwhile, rescue teams swiftly transported injured individuals to nearby hospitals by bus and dispatched a relief train to assist in the operations.
The derailment has brought train operations on the Tatanagar-Chakradharpur section of the South Eastern Railway to a halt.
Authorities have further cancelled several trains and are rerouting others to avoid the accident site.
They are actively clearing the derailed coaches and rescuing trapped passengers using cranes and other heavy machinery.
Local authorities, including the Seraikela district administration, actively participate in the relief efforts. They confirmed the fatalities and the extent of injuries among the passengers.

The cause of the derailment is under investigation, and further details are awaited as authorities work to restore normalcy and ensure the safety of the passengers.
