How Indian Security Agencies Execute Daring Rescue of Sheikh Hasina from Bangladesh

Violence over reservation in Bangladesh spiraled out of control, prompting Sheikh Hasina to resign as Prime Minister and flee to India. Indian security agencies rescued her, executing a meticulously planned operation.

On August 5, after Sheikh Hasina resigned, a mob attacked the PM’s residence. Indian security agencies had already prepared for her safe extraction. The Ministry of External Affairs played a crucial role in the mission to bring Sheikh Hasina to India.

How Sheikh Hasina Reached India

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs held a significant meeting. Attendees included the NSA, Army, Air Force, and security agencies. Union Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar and NSA Chief Ajit Doval also participated. They strategized Sheikh Hasina’s exit plan from Bangladesh with the Army Chief, RAW Chief, Air Force Chief, and other agencies.

Following the strategy, Sheikh Hasina left Bangladesh for India. She departed Dhaka on a Bangladeshi C-130 transport aircraft bound for Tripura. As soon as her plane entered Indian airspace, Air Force fighter planes provided escort. The Indian Air Force and Army were prepared for any contingency.

Conversation with Ajit Doval

Indian security agencies monitored the C-130 aircraft from 10 km away from the Indian border. Her plane landed at Hindon Airbase in Ghaziabad. NSA Ajit Doval met Sheikh Hasina at Hindon Airbase.

Sheikh Hasina and Ajit Doval conversed for one and a half hours. Western Air Command Chief Air Marshal PM Sinha also met her. A CCS meeting followed at the PM residence, attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister, Finance Minister, Foreign Minister, and the NSA. Details of the discussion remain undisclosed, but India’s precise strategy and significant contribution ensured Sheikh Hasina’s safe arrival.
